The Capital University men's tennis team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end Thursday, falling 8-1 against 30th-ranked Earlham in a non-conference dual match at the Dayton Center Courts in Dayton, Ohio.
The No. 1 doubles pair of freshmen Luke Buchanan (Westerville, Ohio) and Spencer Walter (Hilliard, Ohio) recorded the lone victory for the Crusaders (4-2). Buchanan and Walter knocked off the Quakers' Anton Bartashevich and Jack Ventura-Cruess by an 8-5 count.
Earlham (7-0) won the remaining doubles and singles matches in straight sets. Buchanan and fellow freshman Jared Judson (Dublin, Ohio) each took four games off their respective opponents in at least one set before eventually suffering singles setbacks. Buchanan played at the No. 1 slot, while Judson was at sixth singles.
Capital looks to start a new winning streak in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, March 23, against Heidelberg. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Capital Tennis Courts.
The dual match is also the team's 2012-13 home opener and the start of four straight matches on campus.
